Bimi Kaiho
![]() the hectic madness whenever the financial quarter ends usually leaves me with little time to travel too far for food. Bimi Kaiho or 美味海鸥 is an authentic Japanese restaurant tucked in a corner of International Plaza, off Tanjong Pagar MRT. ![]() rows of traditional Japanese wine. I described it as authentic because there seems to be a regular stream of Japanese clientèle who'd patronize this place. the space is fairly cramped with only a few tables, and the way the lady boss asked "有打电话才来吗?" (did you call to make a reservation before coming?) tells me they can be quite popular on a weeknight... it's uncharacteristic of a food blogger to say he cannot appreciate rough Japanese wine, but seriously, that was the case. we got ourselves some Osake, which was smooth and easy on the throat, though it carried a dry lingering finish of plum aroma. the restaurant is popular for their Bento sets and other set meals which often go well with the budget diners. i've also noticed Japanese customers ordering some of their sushi and sashimi cuts, though i told myself that they'd better be fresh for the price that they're charging. curious, we ordered some Saba Oshisushi (popular dishes are found on their hanging menu off the wall).. ![]() the semi-grilled fish was fresh and juicy, with a thin slice of shisho leaf in between to give the sushi a unique flavourful taste. we were still praising ourselves for our smart choice when our main sets came. ordered a Tonkatsu with Udon set together with another Kara-age with Ramen set. all sets came with Chawan-mushi to give the meal really good value. ![]() the set meals are not only good value for money but the pork cutlet was really crispy and tender, giving it good quality as well. another dish worth trying would be their cold Cha Soba. the noodles are of good texture and the sauce gives it the right flavour. if Japanese cuisine is your comfort food during a hectic work-week, Bimi Kaiho would be one perfect relief you could find in the fringes of the CBD. ![]() Bimi Kaiho 10 Anson Road #02-28 International Plaza Singapore 079903 Opening Hours Mondays to Saturdays 11:30 am to 2:30 pm; 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm Closed on Sundays & Public Holidays |
