Colony
The anniversary comes around Chinese New Year and Valentine's Day for us so it was going to be a challenge to find a place that was memorable and offered great value for our celebration. We did some scouting and eventually came across an afternoon tea offering that was absolutely worth it. Colony at the Ritz Carlton Millenia is a restaurant that showcases Asian dishes of Singapore's colonial past. Its afternoon tea menu not only carries a good spread but is also very reasonably priced for the things they offer. It was no question that we came out of our special day feeling very satisfied.
there is also a great sense of arrival stepping into the Ritz Carlton. the high ceilings with natural light made the backdrop very bright and perfect for taking good photos. Colony itself was nicely fitted out to give that picturesque ambience to enjoy afternoon tea. The meal is coined The Journey, to celebrate Singapore's heritage and the savoury dishes are stacked in a classic 5-tier Tingkat or tiffin containers. the sweets are available at the pastry counters in unlimited supply and there's even ice-cream, candy and traditional Nonya Kuehs to choose from. not to mention, the set kicks off with a choice of champagne or Prosecco to get you into the mood for a lovely afternoon. We went for the Prosecco where we had a choice of Raspberry or Lemongrass. the serving of spirits are already in the afternoon set menu and no top-up is required to enjoy the starter drinks. thereafter, visitors can enjoy either a unique house blended tea or a cup of coffee to accompany their food. the staff at Colony are all very knowledgeable and it was evident that everyone was very passionate about serving their customers. great spread of 5 savoury dishes when the tiffin containers arrived. every dish had distinct local flavours and spices but were all expertly fused with more continental ingredients. in particular, we enjoyed the Potted Chilli Crab served with Sambal Lavosh, the lobster sandwich and "Dragon Beard" stuffed Crustacean. although there was just one serving of each dish for us, the range was ample and left us with the right amount of tummy space to go for the desserts. every dish was also delicately presented and were extremely flavourful. the sweet servings were unlimited, we could take as many cakes and mousses that we could finish from this rack. on top of these, there were also a selection of miniature Nonya Kuehs or traditional Peranakan pastries that was available as well. the Asian favourites were popular with the patrons and there were times when people had to wait for the containers to be topped up. to cap off the dessert section, chocolate pralines, cookies and candies were also available together with a fairly wide variety of ice-cream choices. it truly made the afternoon tea great value for money and for us, one of the most memorable high-teas to date.
